Mary Anderson

Mary Anderson was the alias used by an unidentified woman who died by suicide in the Hotel Vintage Park in Seattle, Washington, sometime between the 9th and 11th of October 1996.

Jane Doe checked into the hotel on the 9th of October, 1996, using the alias Mary Anderson. She also gave a non-existent New York phone number (212-569-5549) and address (132 East Third Street, New York, NY 11103). She paid in cash.

The zip code that she gave, 11103, corresponds to Queens, NY and the area code she gave, 212, corresponds to Manhattan, NY. The street address she gave is also a valid address when used with either the Manhattan zip code 10009 or the Brooklyn zip code 11218. This suggests that she had some knowledge or familiarity with the general NYC area and Manhattan in particular.

Mary died by taking cyanide mixed with Metamucil. As she died, she lay on the bed with a large, black bible reading the 23rd Psalm, a Psalm that is commonly associated with death and funerals (The Lord is my Sheppard…).

She was found two days later, on the 11th of October, by hotel staff when she failed to check out of her hotel room. She was dressed in all black and had a face of full makeup including pink lipstick.

Mary had also left a suicide note on the hotel stationary, which read as follows:

To whom it may concern,

I have decided to end my own life and no one is responsible for my death.

Mary Anderson.

P.S I have no relatives. You can use my body as you choose.”

Mary is described as being a white female between 30 and 50 years old. She stood at 5″8′, weighed 240lbs, and had short reddish-brown hair and brown eyes. Her eyebrows had been neatly plucked, she was wearing a full face of makeup, and her nails had been manicured and painted a cream colour. She had a copper IUD and a dental plate, and she had surgical scars on her breasts indicating that she had a breast reduction. The hotel staff said that she did not have a distinct accent.

In her hotel room, she had two luggage bags, six stretch velour outfits, an olive green purse made of woven leather, black leather gloves, a Cobalt blue jacket, shoes, slippers, pantyhose, perfume, an iron, a kitchen bowl, toothpaste, Crystal Light, Estée Lauder cosmetics and Metamucil mixed with cyanide used to commit suicide.

Mary’s true identity still remains unknown.
