“Poppa Doc”

“Poppa Doc” was the nickname used by a former homeless man who was shot to death by police in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on the 3rd of July 2009.

Two police officers were called to the Municipal Services Building after receiving reports that John Doe was waving and threatening people with a box cutter whilst suffering a mental health crisis. When one officer tried to use his baton to disarm the man, the man charged him and ended up being shot four times in the chest. John Doe was pronounced dead on arrival at a local hospital.

The police officer’s decision to shoot the man without even trying to use a taser on him, especially taking into account his mental state, has been questioned by many people.

John Doe had been arrested in April of 2006 after he broke into a building where he wanted to sleep. He told police that his name was “Morgan Mumford” and that his date of birth was the 22nd of September 1949. This was later discovered to be a stolen identity.

He was known to other homeless people and transients by the nickname “Poppa Doc”, but very little is actually known about his life.

“Poppa Doc” is described as a black male between the ages of 55 and 60. He was 6″0′, weighed 195lbs, and had brown eyes and black/grey hair. At the time of his death, he was wearing a black sweater, red shorts, black shoes and a purple short-sleeved shirt.

Do you know what his true identity is?
