Joanne Maire Pedersen is a 10-year-old girl who went missing from her home near Vedder Crossing close to Chilliwack, British Columbia, on the 19th of February 1983. Joanne was last seen with an unidentified male at a telephone booth, which led to the suggestion that she may have been abducted.
Witness reports describe the man as being between 20-30 years old, 5″6′ / 5″7′, slim/medium build, either light or dark coloured hair that was below the ears, clean shaven and wearing a dark jacket. It is also thought that he was driving a two-door white or cream-coloured domestic car from the early to mid-1970s with a dark Landau roof.
Joanne was speaking to her parents over the payphone when the man grabbed the phone from her and told Joanne’s parents that he would call the police if she wasn’t picked up within 30mins.
Joanne is described as being a white female, 10 years old, standing at 4″6′ and weighing between 84-85lbs. She had shoulder-length light brown hair, brown eyes, a slender build, a light complexion and a 1″ large birthmark behind her right ear.
Joanne was last seen wearing Tan Capri pants, a blue sweater, a yellow t-shirt with the words “A touch of class” written on it and a pink sleeveless jacket.
If you have any information regarding Joanne’s disappearance, or if you recognise the man above, please contact the Chilliwack Serious Crime Unit at 604-792-4611.
If Joanne is still alive today, she would be 50 years old.
