Mr X (1975)

Mr X is the name given to a man whose body was found close to Highway 20 in Piedmont, South Carolina on the 4th of January 1975.

Mr X had a belt wrapped around his neck and had then been wrapped in bed linen sheets and then another belt had been tied over the sheets around his neck. He had been beaten or strangled to death, and then covered in gasoline and set on fire. It is unclear if he was alive or dead when he was set on fire.

Mr X is described as being a black male between the ages of 20 and 30. His weight is unknown, but he is thought to have stood at around 5″11′.

The police did release an autopsy image of the man with the hopes of someone recognising him, but as of April 2020, the image produced no new leads. If you wish to see the image of the man, you can do so by clicking here.

Sometime in 2020, Mr X’s body was exhumed in order for DNA evidence to be extracted.

At the time of this article, Mr X has not been formally identified. Do you know who he is?
