The Delphi Murders: Abigail Williams and Liberty German

On Monday 13th February 2017, thirteen-year-old Abigail Williams and fourteen-year-old Liberty German went hiking the Monon High Bridge over Deer Creek, which was in remote woodland near the Deer Creek Township. This trail is part of the Delphi Historic Trails, which are based in Delphi, Indiana, USA.

At 2:07pm, Liberty posted a photo to social media of Abigail walking over the bridge. This was the last time anyone heard from them.

At 5:30pm, the girls were reported missing. They had not met Liberty’s father at 3:15pm as planned, and after both families did an initial search of the area they decided to call the police.

Foul play was not suspected in this case, to begin with, but this later changed after police discovered the bodies of Abigail and Liberty the next day. The bodies were found just 0.5miles (0.80km) from the Monon bridge and were located on the north bank of Deer Creek.

Police have not released the details of the murders, but have ruled the deaths a homicide.

There is one prime suspect in the case, but police have been unable to identify him.

Whilst walking the trail, Liberty recorded a man walking behind them. Police have praised Liberty for her quick-thinking skills to record the man without him knowing. She also managed to capture some audio from the suspected attacker in which he says: “Guys…Down the hill.”

As this is an ongoing investigation, police have not released all the evidence so as to not compromise any future trial.

As of 2021, the unidentified man has been named the only person of interest in the case. Police and the FBI are asking the public to look closely at the photos and listen carefully to the audio to see if they recognise the man or his voice.

If you, or someone you know, has any information regarding Abigail and Liberty’s murders, or any knowledge of the unknown man, you are urged to contact the authorities. Numbers and contact information are posted below.

Update: On the 7th of December 2021, police have asked the public for help to find the creator of a fake social media profile named ‘anthony_shots’. Police say that the creator of this fake profile used it to communicate with underage girls, including to receive nude photographs and attempt to meet them. Police have not disclosed what role they think the person behind this fake profile played in the murders of Abigail and Liberty.

Anthony_shots username was used from 2016 – 2017 on Snapchat and Instagram, and other social media. The account used images of a well-known male model who would make himself out to be wealthy and own a lot of sports cars. The model who is used in these photos is not a suspect.

WISH-TV reported that the creator of the anthony_shots profile has already been identified as 27-year-old Kegan Anthony Kline, who was charged in 2020 with child pornography and exploitation. However, court documents have shown no link between Kline and the murders of Abigail and Liberty. Police have not confirmed or denied Kegan’s involvement in this.

Police are asking anyone who knows the creator of the anthony_shots profile, or anyone who interacted with this profile, to contact them immediately. Contact information is shown above.

Update 2: On the 18th of May, 2022, new details about the case came to light. Police have said that the owner of the land the girl’s bodies was found on, Ron Logan, could not be definitely ruled out as being the man saying “Down the Hill” to Abby and Liberty shortly before they died. Ron was never formally named a suspect in the murders, and he died in 2020.

An FBI search warrant obtained by the podcast Murder Sheet and released to Indianapolis FOX59 has stated that both Abby and Liberty lost a large amount of blood at the crime scene, and there were no signs of a struggle or fight.

The warrant also said that the killer most likely took a souvenir from the girls as a way to remember his crime, however, the warrant gave no indication as to what the souvenir might have been although it did say “the rest of the girls’ clothing was recovered” suggesting it may have been an item of clothing.

It was also revealed that the girl’s bodies had been staged in a particular way after the murderer had killed them, with investigators believing that the perpetrator probably took photos and/or videos of the scene to remember what they had done.

Update 3: On the 31st of October, 2022, 50-year-old Richard Allen from Indiana was arrested and charged with two counts of murder in the case of Abigail and Liberty. He is currently being held at an undisclosed jail in Indiana. Richard is expected back in court on the 22nd of November 2022. Please respect the family’s privacy at this time.
